Can the GP issue a prescription?

Yes, where the GP considers a medicine clinically appropriate and safe following your assessment, they may issue a private prescription. The cost of dispensing a private prescription is normally payable to the pharmacy. A consultation does not guarantee that a prescription will be issued.
