Can the GP prescribe controlled drugs or specialist medicines?

Modified on Thu, 1 Oct at 12:33 AM

Some medicines are not suitable for prescribing through a remote GP service. The GP will only prescribe when they are satisfied that it is safe, clinically appropriate and consistent with professional prescribing standards. We do not prescribe any controlled drugs in the private sector. Specialist medicines may be prescribed where they fall within the GP’s usual prescribing remit and are not controlled drugs. However, some highly specialist medicines may require specialist oversight and therefore may not be suitable for prescribing through our video GP service. This will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
